Survival Camp 2009 15/07/2009

survival.png Survival Camp 2009 was held at Blackhills campsite over the weekend 10-12 July.

A total of 101 scouts attended camp, supported by 34 leaders. The camp offers scouts the opportunity to both learn and practice skills seldom available on troop nights.

These activities included: Shelter building, Coconut mugs, Rabbit, Wood pigeon, Maggots, Fish, Navigation, Flint & steel, Squirrel, Eyeballs, Cheese making, Fire lighting, Water purification, Edible plants and Craft activities.

All meals were cooked over open fires without the use of utensils.

Sleeping in shelters of their own construction, scouts spent two nights out in the open with reveille at 0600hrs to start the day with a smile.

Many visitors came to see the camp including the County Commissioner Neil Leatherland. Comments were made by several visitors on the high standard of organisation and the layout of the site. Their praise was most welcome and generous.
All visitors and camp staff complimented the scouts on their politeness and good manners.

In conclusion, the camp was a great success with many asking for activity days at Blackhills where they could come to learn and practise Survival Skills.
